Lee Congerton has told Celtic fans it won’t just be bringing foreign stars into Parkhead that’s his priority as the new chief scout has promised to make bringing in Scottish players the forefront of his agenda, according to The Daily Record, who’ve reported comments Congerton made to the club’s television channel.

He said, “We want to give local players the chance to play for Celtic.

“That was something that Brendan’s expressed to me and something we share and I believe in myself.”

Celtic became famous throughout the world for the ‘Lisbon Lions’, a side that lifted the European Cup who were made up almost entirely of players born near to the club’s ground.

Although that happening again, for any team not just Celtic, is almost impossible, The Hoops management team will appreciate how the right balance of homegrown talent and foreign stars can often bring success.

One of the priorities for Rodgers next season will be to make his side progress in the Champions League as they struggled in the group stages during this campaign.

With The Hoops on the verge of securing the league title, the Premiership has been something of a stroll for them this season, but Congerton will need to think about transfers very carefully if they’re to see any progress in Europe.
