Chelsea are monitoring talks between Rafael Leao and his current club AC Milan, according to reports.

The Blues have been chasing a forward for much of the summer and, according to Sky Sports, they are now keeping tabs on Leao, who is in discussions with the Italian side over an extension to his current deal.

The 23-year-old won the Serie A player of the year award last season after scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 league matches.

His current deal is due to expire in 2024, but the player’s representatives have been in talks with the club for several weeks now, the report claims.

Chelsea initially showed an interest in the player earlier this summer but were deterred by the ongoing talks over an extension.

Leao is a target for Chelsea

This time around, The Blues are set to monitor the situation having been encouraged to do so.

Leao, a Portugal international, joined Milan from French side Lille in 2019 and has since scored 27 goals and registered 21 assists in 117 matches for the club.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to add a forward to his squad having watched his side struggle during their dismal 3-0 loss at Leeds United on Sunday.

Both of Chelsea’s goals from open play so far this term have been scored by defenders, with midfielder Jorginho also weighing in with a penalty against Everton on the opening day.

The Blues have also been linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
