Newcastle United are set to complete their third January signing having agreed a deal with French club Lyon for Bruno Guimaraes, according to Sky Sports

The midfielder will undergo a medical in his native Brazil on Wednesday, with the two clubs having reportedly agreed upon a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million.

The 24-year-old had been heavily linked with Arsenal, and it is also believed that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have both also shown interest in the player.

The Brazilian has been impressive for the Ligue 1 side this term, having made 25 appearances across all competitions.

He joined Lyon in 2020 from Athletico Paranaense, and has since scored three goals and registered eight assists in 71 games for the French side.

Guimaraes is reportedly on his way to Newcastle

Lyon have however denied that a deal has been agreed.

An official statement from the club stated that “Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media reporting an agreement between Newcastle and OL for the transfer of Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes.

“In this transfer window period where the slightest rumour is often presented as reality, Olympique Lyonnais reminds that only information officially released by the club is to be taken into consideration.”

If a deal is agreed, Guimaraes would become the third signing of the PIF era at St. James’ Park, and also Eddie Howe’s third acquisition as Magpies boss.

Both Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have already arrived on Tyneside, and the signing of Guimaraes would take Howe’s spending this month past the £70 million mark.
