Newcastle are expected to complete the loan signing of Tammy Abraham over the weekend.

According to a report in the Daily Mail Rafa Benitez’s personal connections at Chelsea have ensured that the young striker will spend next season at St James’ Park.

Abraham scored an impressive 26 goals for Bristol City in the season just finished with Chelsea wanting him tested in the Premier League.

The Premier League champions had considered having Abraham as part of their first team squad but were convinced by Benitez that a season in the Newcastle first team will be of more benefit.

Brighton were also keen on the 19-year-old striker but the Benitez factor has ensured Newcastle make a head start of their promotion rivals for the season ahead.

Benitez is still looking for at least one experienced striker for the new campaign but is thrilled to have brought the England u-21 skipper to Newcastle.
