Newcastle United suffered another heavy defeat on the road as they were beaten 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Destiny Udogie put the hosts ahead in North London, before Richarlison scored either side of half-time to put Ange Postecoglou’s side in a commanding position.

Spurs were then awarded a penalty when captain Son Heung-Min was fouled by Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, and the South Korea international duly dispatched to make it 4-0.

Midfielder Joelinton grabbed a late consolation goal for the visitors, but Eddie Howe’s side’s poor record away from home this season continued.

With Nick Pope set for an extended period on the sidelines after suffering an injury earlier this month, it appears that those in charge of Newcastle’s recruitment are considering a shock move for a Spurs ‘keeper.

As per The Mirror, the Magpies could make a move to sign out of favour Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Lloris hasn’t featured for Spurs so far this season

The Frenchman has made 444 appearances for Spurs since joining the club from Lyon over a decade ago, but he hasn’t featured in a matchday squad since Postecoglou’s arrival over the summer.

The Australian has instead opted to use Guglielmo Vicario in goal, with Fraser Forster second choice.

Lloris’ current contract with Spurs is set to expire next summer, but Tottenham could try to reach an agreement to terminate his deal prior to its expiry.

Pope is set to be absent for around four months after dislocating his shoulder during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Manchester United last week.

While Howe is set to stick with Dubravka as his first choice ‘keeper in Pope’s absence, the report claims that Newcastle could use the January transfer window to add extra cover in the goalkeeping department.

Former Liverpool man Lloris Karius is Newcastle’s other option in goal.
