Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni has emerged as a surprise emergency loan target for Newcastle United.

The Premier League side, who sit third from bottom in the table following Saturday’s goalless draw against Stoke City, are exploring a number of transfer targets following injuries to shot stoppers Tim Krul, Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot.

The 36-year-old, who arrived at Selhurst Park from Dundee back in 2004, is currently working his way back from a finger injury, being placed on the Palace bench most recently against Leicester City and Manchester United.

Throughout the Argentine’s stay at Palace, Speroni has kept 105 clean sheets in 382 first-team appearances for the club.

However Eagles boss Alan Pardew is not thought to be keen on letting the veteran ‘keeper leave Selhurst Park with only Wayne Hennessey and Alex McCarthy left as his number one options.
