Newcastle have been given the green light to resign Andros Townsend- but only on a permanent deal.
According to a report in The Guardian Sam Allardyce has agreed for the winger to return to Tyneside provided he gets £13m to strengthen Palace’s relegation fight.
Townsend left Newcastle for Palace in the summer but is willing to return to Newcastle at the first opportunity.
The 25-year-old was one of the few successes at St James’ Park last season as they slid to relegation and activated a clause in his contract to move on rather than play in The Championship.
Rafa Benitez has struggled to bring in new faces during the January transfer window and initially wanted Townsend on loan.
Newcastle will have to shell out the £13m that they got for Townsend in the summer if they are to be reunited but with the promotion places up for grabs Benitez knows that he must bring in quality to ensure an instant return to the top flight.
