Since the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United last month, much of the talk has been around which ‘superstar’ players the Magpies could sign in future transfer windows.

However, according to The Chronicle, the St James’ Park outfit could be set to lose a current player to a club north of the border.

The report claims that Celtic are eyeing the signature of young midfielder Joe White.

White, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season and it’s reported that the Bhoys are eyeing the possibility of snapping him up on a pre-contract agreement.

Newcastle signed White on professional terms at the age of 17 and was included in the senior’s matchday squad in the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United earlier this season.

This term, the Carlisle-born teenager, who also reportedly attracted interest from Leeds in the summer, has assisted four goals in ten Premier League 2 matches and scored in the EFL Trophy.

If Celtic were to sign White on a pre-contract agreement, then Newcastle would be due a compensation fee due to the midfielder being under the age of  24.
