Newcastle United are in talks to make Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope their second summer signing, according to reports.

As per Sky Sports, the Englishman is being lined up by Eddie Howe as he looks to bolster his goalkeeping options.

The Magpies’ current number one is Martin Dubravka and, while he isn’t expected to leave the club, second choice ‘keeper Karl Darlow is.

Newcastle have already singed Matt Targett permanently after a successful loan spell last term, and are also believed to be in talks over deals for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike and Lille defender Sven Botman.

Pope is unlikely to feature in the Championship next season

Pope, who was included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, was relegated at the end of last season with the Clarets, but has been heavily linked with a top flight return in the weeks since.

Last week it was reported that Howe was interested in the 30-year-old, and it now appears that talks are well underway according to the reports.

The former Charlton Athletic man has kept 47 clean sheets in 141 Premier League games throughout his career, and is believed to be valued at around £13.5 million.
