Newcastle keen on Heaton

Newcastle are keen to sign Tom Heaton.

According to a report in The Sun the Burnley keeper is one of Rafa Benitez’s top targets for next season’s Premier League campaign.

Heaton has been a key part of the Burnley success story from gaining promotion to virtually assuring their place in next season’s Premier League.

Benitez will meet Mike Ashley next week to thrash out a transfer budget with a steady goalkeeper critical to his plans.

Heaton recently turned 31 but is in the best form of his career after a number of loan deals from Manchester United before joining Burnley in 2013.

After making over 160 league appearances for the club he is finally getting some recognition with Benitez keen to bring the keeper to St James’ Park alongside midfielder Scott Arfield.

Heaton is under contract with Burnley until 2020 after signing a new improved deal at the start of the season.
