Newcastle United have reportedly launched an audacious £19m bid for France international Alexandre Lacazette.

The Premier League side, who lie two points adrift of safety in the bottom three after their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, have identified the Lyon striker as the ideal transfer target to help try and fire them to safety this campaign.

The 24-year-old, who has ten international caps for his country, has scored eight goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Lacazette, who has been with Lyon since 2003, is wanted by Magpies boss Steve McClaren following the news that forward Papiss Cisse has been ruled out injured for three months and the fact that summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic has struggled to find the back of the net this term.
