Newcastle United are reportedly set to make a new January approach for France international forward Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Telegraph.
The Premier League club, who sit two points adrift of safety in the bottom three after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday, are understood to be weighing up another offer for the Lyon striker before the close of the transfer window next Monday.
The 24-year-old, who has eight international caps for his country, has scored nine goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.
Lacazette, who was reportedly not interested in a move to St James’ Park earlier this month, is now understood to be open to the idea of joining the Premier League side and helping them stave off relegation come May.
The report also suggests Steve McClaren’s club are willing to pay more than £20m for the French forward’s services this month, as well as offering him a deal that would make him one of the highest earners at the Magpies.
