Newcastle United are reportedly interested in an audacious move for the Championship top goalscorer Andre Gray this month.

The Premier League side, who currently lie two points adrift of safety in the bottom three, have been closely monitoring the Burnley hotshot following his instant success at Turf Moor this term.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Clarets from Brentford in a deal worth a club-record £6m back in August, has scored an impressive 15 league goals in 22 appearances for Sean Dyche’s men this season.

Gray, who was playing non-league football with Hinckley United only four years ago, has become Newcastle boss Steve McClaren’s new priority striking target after being caught by surprise by Bournemouth’s rapid capture of Wolves forward Benik Afobe last week.

However; FIFA rules prevent players from featuring for three different clubs in a 12-month period, with Gray also starring for the Bees during their first two league fixtures back in August.

The Magpies would still be allowed to sign Gray permanently; but he wouldn’t be allowed to play for the St James’ Park outfit for the remainder of the season, meaning he’ll most likely be loaned back to Burnley until May.
