Mike Williamson is out of favour at St James’ Park.

Newcastle certainly appear keen to boost their squad during the January transfer window as they look to fend off relegation, but there could be some player departures from St James’ Park as well.

One of those is likely to be defender Mike Williamson, who has fallen out of favour at the club ever since John Carver accused him of getting sent off on purpose towards the end of last season.

However, the 32-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Championship outfit Wolves earlier this term, and was recalled by Toon boss Steve McClaren at the start of December following a number of defensive injuries.

Williamson has since been sidelined himself with a hamstring problem, but looks set to be allowed to leave United for a nominal fee this month, with Wolves manager Kenny Jackett ready to bring the centre-half back to Molineux 0n a permanent deal.
