Name: Alexandre Lacazette
Still two points adrift of safety in the bottom three; Newcastle United’s search for a prolific striker intensifies as the Magpies flirt with relegation this term.
However Steve McClaren’s side have been given fresh hope in their pursuit of long-term goalscoring target Alexandre Lacazette.
Despite signing a new contract with Lyon during the closing stages of the summer transfer window; the France international forward has made it public that he would like to test his ability in the Premier League one day, although it seems he may be destined for the English top-flight sooner than we first predicted.
The 24-year-old, who has eight international caps for his country, has scored nine goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.
Lacazette, who was not interested in a move to St James’ Park at the very beginning of this month, is now understood to be open to the idea of joining the Premier League side and helping them stave off relegation come May.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Steve McClaren’s Magpies are willing to pay more than £20m for the French forward’s services this month, as well as offering him a deal that would make him one of the highest earners at the club.
