Name: Rob Elliot
Position: Goalkeeper

Elliot has been brilliant since stepping in for the injured Tim Krul.

It’s been another difficult season for Newcastle United, who are currently in yet another relegation battle.

However, with new signing Jonjo Shelvey enjoying an impressive debut, and more new faces likely to arrive, the Magpies are expected to move clear of danger come the end of the season.

Back to most improved though and, like Aston Villa, it’s really difficult to say that a single Newcastle player has pushed on from last term.

But one man who has enhanced his reputation with the Toon Army is goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

The Republic of Ireland international only got his chance because of an injury to Tim Krul, but has looked far more confident and assured than when called upon in the past.

Now 29, the former Charlton stopper has made on average 2.36 saves per match and made points-saving stops in victories against Bournemouth, Liverpool, Tottenham, and the 3-3 draw against Manchester United.
