Name: Georginio Wijnaldum
Three straight Premier League defeats in a row has seen Newcastle United fall one point adrift of safety at the bottom end of the standings – although they do have a game in hand over their closest relegation rivals.
However being awarded the side’s top goalscorer award will hardly mask the pain should the Magpies suffer relegation to the Championship come May – although midfielder and star summer Georginio Wijnaldum looks favourite to finish top of the charts this season.
The 25-year-old; who has 24 international caps for the Netherlands, has scored an impressive nine goals in 28 appearances for Steve McClaren’s side this campaign, often being regarded as the brightest spark throughout Newcastle’s torrid 2015/16 term to date.
However Wijnaldum, who cost the English top-flight outfit a reported £14.5m from the Eredivisie’s PSV Eindhoven, has always found the back of the net at St James’ Park, never away from home. Although the Dutchman’s highlight so far in a Black and White shirt was his terrific four-goal haul against Norwich City back in October.
