Georginio Wijnaldum scored four of Newcastle United’s six goals against Norwich City earlier this month.

There aren’t too many positives to cast your eye over at St James’ Park so far this season, especially after the Magpies’ thoroughly disappointing 3-0 defeat to Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland on Sunday. But the instant impact made by the club’s star summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum is something Newcastle fans should smile about and will hopefully give them some encouragement about beating the drop towards the end of the season. In his opening ten Premier League appearances, the Netherlands international has racked up an impressive six goals and one assists to single-handedly heave Steve McClaren’s men out of some disastrous situations already this term. Wijnaldum, who cost a reported £14.5m from PSV Eindhoven back in July, hit the ground running during his English top-flight debut, scoring Newcastle’s second goal in the club’s opening 2-2 draw with Southampton. Since then the 24-year-old has made a habit of becoming the Magpies’ man of the match; firstly netting against Chelsea last month to rescue a draw (2-2) against the defending Premier League champions before scoring FOUR of the club’s six goals against Norwich City during their thunderous 6-2 victory over the Canaries earlier this month. Manager McClaren may well have another tough job of keeping hold of his prized asset on his hands in the near future if Georginio continues to upstage everybody else around him…
