Summer signing Wijnaldum is Newcastle’s top goalscorer this season with nine goals in all competitions.

Despite suffering some damaging news following goalkeeper Rob Elliot’s serious knee injury whilst on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, fellow Magpies teammate Georginio Wijnaldum enjoyed two run outs for the Netherlands over the Easter Weekend.

The 25-year-old, who arrived at St James’ Park from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven back in July 2015 for a reported fee of around £14.5m, played over 100 minutes for the Oranje during their international friendlies with Euro 2016 hosts and qualifiers France and England.

Wijnaldum, who now has 27 international caps for his country, featured for 15 minutes as a substitute in last Friday’s 3-2 defeat to France, with goals from Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Blaise Matuidi sealing an impressive away victory.

Before the Newcastle United star started Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions inside Wembley Stadium, with strikes from Vincent Janssen (pen) and Luciano Narsingh pegging back England after Jamie Vardy’s opener.
