Newcastle United are reportedly lining up a swoop to appoint their next manager.

The Magpies sacked Steve Bruce last week, 13 days after they were taken over by a group led by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

Now it’s claimed that they have narrowed their search for their next boss.

The Mail report that the Tyneside outfit are plotting a deal to appoint Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag.

It’s thought that the Magpies are prepared to make the Dutchman the third-highest paid manager in the Premier League with a gigantic £11 million per-year salary.

However, it seems there are a few hurdles yet to be overcome as it’s claimed that Ten Hag has concerns about leaving Ajax for a club which sits winless and 19th in the Premier League.

Ten Hag, 51, was appointed manager of the Dutch giants in December 2017 and has won two league and cup doubles with the Amsterdam giants.
