Ranocchia heads the ball back to the goalkeeper during Italy’s international friendly against England back in March 2015.

Having had a £7.3m bid snubbed by the Italy international during the New Year, Norwich City should reignite their interest in the out-of-favour Inter Milan ace Andrea Ranocchia to continue strengthening their leaky defence.

After conceding 11 goals in their last three Premier League outings; including five in the nine-goal thrilling defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, Canaries boss Alex Neil needs another solid addition to follow the likes of Ivo Pinto and Timm Klose into Carrow Road this month if they are to stave off relegation come May.

Despite failing to convince Ranocchia to move to England at the beginning of this month; the pressures and panic of a transfer deadline day can make heads spin and ultimately change players’ minds at the last minute.

The 27-year-old; who has 20 international caps for his country, has made just ten league appearances for Serie A giants Inter this season, accumulating to just 208 minutes of first-team football.

The towering 6ft 5in centre-half, who was captain of the San Siro outfit during the 2014-15 campaign, has failed to start a league game for his club since October 27, 2015.

In fact; Ranocchia hasn’t featured for Roberto Mancini’s side since November 22, where he made only a 30-minute cameo appearance in Inter’s 4-0 victory over Frosinone.

Now firmly relegated to the bench; Norwich should be capable of thrashing out a deal for the defender, who briefly attracted the interest of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool earlier this month, with the greater probability of first-team football or perhaps an increase on the Canaries’ first offering of £2.19m in wages per year.
