Norwich City are understood to have made Premier League striker Dwight Gayle their new number one transfer target this January, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newly-promoted club, who currently sit six points above the bottom three in the standings, want to use fellow forward Lewis Grabban’s £8m sale to Bournemouth to help fund the move for the out-of-favour Crystal Palace hitman.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Eagles from Peterborough United in a deal worth £4.5m back in July 2013, has failed to score in seven league appearances for Alan Pardew’s side this season.

Although the Canaries have also had an £8m bid accepted for Everton forward Steven Naismith; it seems Norwich boss Alex Neil has switched his attentions to Gayle’s goalscoring exploits, who turned down an £8m move to Championship outfit Bristol City back in the summer.
