With the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho all making big money moves, this summer’s transfer window will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most memorable.

Despite the number of superstars who did switch clubs over the summer, there were also a number of long running sagas that came to no fruition.

The relentless speculation linking Harry Kane with a move to Manchester City never materialised, and the much-discussed future of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland seems no clearer, despite much talk.

Despite the Norwegian star, who has scored 68 goals in 67 games for the Bundesliga side, remaining in Germany, it appears that his current employers are already planning for his inevitable departure.

According to German outlet Sport1, Dortmund have identified Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as a potential replacement for Haaland.

Martial is currently enduring his worst spell of form since joining United

The report suggests that the German side have as many as 30 scouts all over Europe searching for a possible replacement, but Martial has apparently been chosen as a potential target.

It is believed that the Frenchman, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, could be available for between £42-£47 million.

Martial, who became the most expensive teenager in football history when he joined from Monaco in 2015, is now behind both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani in the pecking order up front for the Red Devils, after a poor run of form and a number of injuries in recent seasons.

One potential obstacle in the way of a potential deal, however, is believed to be the player’s wage demands.

Martial currently earns around £200,000-per-week, a fee that Dortmund would not be able to match.

It is believed, meanwhile, that Haaland’s release clause that becomes active next summer could make him available for as little as £77 million.

A number of clubs will undoubtedly be interested in the striker, with Manchester City and Manchester United topping the list of potential suitors.
