Tottenham suffered a second Premier League defeat of the season when they went down 1-0 to Manchester United on Sunday.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first half strike was enough to see off Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who went into the game full of confidence having beaten Swansea 5-0 and CSKA Moscow 3-1 in the preceding eight days.
However, Spurs weren’t at their fluent best going forward, and have now suffered back-to-back away league defeats, having lost their unbeaten record to league leaders Chelsea in their previous away outing.
Nonetheless, Pochettino’s men still sit fifth in the table despite the defeat, three points behind Manchester City, but now only three points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s United in sixth.
Spurs will look to maintain that gap and possibly increase it when they host struggling Hull at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, with Mike Phelan’s side looking for only their second away league win of the campaign, having lost six in a row away from the KCOM Stadium.
However, the Tigers go into the match having drawn 3-3 at home to free-scoring Crystal Palace on Saturday, which means that they have lost just two of their last five games.
They come up against a solid Spurs side though on Wednesday night, and Pochettino will be hopeful that his side can secure an eighth league win of the season.
