Liverpool’s defence of their first ever Premier League title has far from gone to plan so far, with Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp recently admitting that it will be ‘almost impossible’ for his side to even achieve a place in the top four.

Klopp’s side are without even a single point in their last six home league games, a staggering statistic considering the Reds went 68 home games unbeaten prior to a 1-0 defeat to Brighton in February.

With just nine league games remaining, it seems that the Champions League is the Reds’ only chance of silverware this season. With a tough two legged tie against Real Madrid standing between Liverpool and a place in the semi finals, some fans are already looking ahead to next season.

It appears that the club are also looking to the future, with reports suggesting that they are the favourites to land one of the Eredivisie’s hottest talents.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Liverpool are interested in PSV’s Donyell Malen, and are already lining up an offer for the summer.

The 22-year-old’s current contract with the Dutch side runs until 2024, however it is believed that they are willing to sell the player if their £26 million valuation of him is met.

Malen has played seven times fo the Netherlands national side

Klopp’s strike force, which played such a pivotal role in their Champions League and Premier League winning campaigns of the past two seasons, have stuttered of late and he is reportedly keen on bolstering his attacking ranks.

Malen has scored 23 goals in all competitions this term, with 15 of those coming in the league.

The Reds will reportedly have to fend off interest from Italian sides Juventus and AC Milan, but it is believed that the English champions are considered to be in pole position to land the Dutchman.
