The Premier League returns this weekend, with Liverpool hosting rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Jurgen Klopp’s side started the season strongly and currently sit fourth in the table, despite failing to win either of their past two games.

Last time out, the Reds followed up a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in a thrilling encounter at The Amex.

Everton, meanwhile, have struggled so far this term and currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, suggesting that Sean Dyche’s side could once again be involved in a relegation scrap.

While all eyes will be on Anfield on Saturday, off the pitch it appears that those in charge of Liverpool are plotting a sensational move for one of the world’s best players.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport via Le Sport 10, both Liverpool and Chelsea are preparing contract offers for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe’s appears increasingly likely to leave PSG in the next 12 months

The report claims that both Premier League sides are plotting ‘extremely important’ contract offers for the Frenchman, who has established himself as one of the world’s best players in recent seasons.

Mbappe, 24, joined PSG from fellow French side Monaco back in 2017, initially on loan, before making the switch permanent the following year.

In total he has made 269 appearances across all competitions, scoring a remarkable 220 goals and providing 98 assists.

The France international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, though, which means he would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of France from January onwards.

With that in mind, the report claims that both the Reds and the Blues are preparing offers for the player, with a view to signing him at the end of the current season.

The Ligue 1 champions could decide to cash in on Mbappe in January, though, as opposed to losing him for free next summer.
