Monday night football sees Tottenham host rock-bottom Aston Villa in the Premier League in what looks like a certain home win for Spurs, if form is anything to go by.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who currently sit sixth in the table after last Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing triumph over AFC Bournemouth, boast the longest unbeaten streak in the Premier League on nine games, including four victories.

Meanwhile the Villans, who dismissed manager Tim Sherwood last weekend after their sixth straight league defeat to Swansea City, have failed to register a win in the Premier League since the opening day of the 2015-16 campaign against the Cherries also.

Centre-half Jan Vertonghen has been Tottenham’s unsung hero so far, helping Spurs keep four clean sheets this term at the heart of defence, meanwhile opposing captain Micah Richards has proved Aston Villa’s most worthy summer signing despite his side’s rotten league form.

With both defenders’ performances crucial towards their team’s outcome on Monday night, here’s how Vertonghen and Richards match up so far this campaign…
