Why have Manchester United Signed him?

Last seasons Top-four finish has meant Manchester United are back playing Champions League football and Louis van Gaal is trying to build a squad with the quality and experience to compete at the highest level. Bastian Schweinsteiger brings both these characteristics in abundance. With 500 appearances for Bayern Munich and both a World Cup and Champions League winners medal, the midfielder is one of the most experienced players in European football. He brings real quality to United’s midfield where he will look to dictate the play with his passing game and dominate opposition with his technical ability. It is a signing that acts as a real statement of intent from United and one that they hope will help them become serious contenders both domestically and in Europe.

Will he be a good capture?

Schweinsteiger has all the qualities of a player that can succeed in the Premier League. He brings creativity from midfield and his leadership skills mean that he will help to steady United’s defence which was error prone during the 2014/15 season. His addition along with that of Morgan Schneiderlin means United now have a midfield that looks set to compete at the highest level. The major concern surrounding the German is his fitness and series of knee and ankle injuries have hampered his career in the past 12 months. However, United will manage this situation and you’ll probably see him rested ahead of big games. For £14m he should prove a quality addition.
