From: PSV Eindhoven
To: Manchester United
Fee: £30 million
Why have Man United signed him?
Louis van Gaal has identified fellow countryman Memphis Depay as someone who can add another piece to the jigsaw as United launch aim to launch a serious challenge on four fronts next season. The Dutchman attracted the attention of a number of top clubs across Europe after terrorising the defences of the Eredivisie last term as he helped PSV to a comfortable title win. As arguably the hottest prospect on the continent, Depay, who hit 28 goals in all competitions in 2014-15, will provide depth to an attacking unit too reliant on captain Wayne Rooney.
Will he be a good capture?
At 21 years old he has time on his hands and bags of potential. Likened to Cristiano Ronaldo at a similar age, expect the Dutchman to be successful from the off. He appears to have the physical and technical attributes that suit the rigors of England’s top flight, whilst the form of Ashley Young and Ander Herrera means he can be eased in LvG if needs be.
