Why have Liverpool signed him?
Liverpool’s key problem in lasts season’s disappointing campaign was their lack of goals in the squad. The departure of Luis Suarez and the series of injuries sustained by Daniel Sturridge meant that the Reds were without the SAS partnership that nearly led them to the title in the 13/14 campaign. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that Roberto Firmino may be an answer to that problem this season. Although he is not a centre forward, he does have an eye for goal and his impressive showing of four goals in 10 games for Brazil shows what he is capable of at the highest level. He also brings versatility in creative positions and a brand of football that will excite Liverpool fans. They will be hoping that Firmino’s quality can provide Liverpool with the goals they need if they are to achieve a Top-four finish.
Will he be a good capture?
Firmino has all the characteristics to suggest that he should be a fantastic capture for the Reds. While playing for Hoffenheim he developed into one of the most attacking players in the Bundesliga through a combination of his pace and dribbling ability. The 23-year-old has created the most chances in the German League over the past two seasons and has also completed the most dribbles in that time frame. He is typically South American in his pressing style of play and he rushes defenders in a similar style to Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez. If Firmino can bring his form from the German League to England then he could be one of the signings of the summer.
