Southampton and West Ham are part of a Premier League quartet eyeing up a summer move for Leeds United striker Chris Wood, according to The Sun.

The New Zealand international has embarked on his best-ever goal-scoring season for Garry Monk’s side, netting 27 goals in 44 Championship games to help the Yorkshire outfit to a seventh place finish in the division, their joint-highest finish since 2006.

And although Monk’s men laboured in the final month or so of the campaign, a run of form which ultimately cost them a play-off place, Wood finished the season as the top-scorer in the Championship, and has since attracted much interest from the top-flight.

And recent reports suggest that a four-strong Premier League group of Southampton, Stoke City, Swansea City, and West Ham are all eyeing up a £20 million move for the striker this summer.

Claude Puel’s Saints have managed just 41 goals in the top tier this term, and could really do with strengthening their forward options ahead of next season, while Welsh outfit Swansea narrowly avoided the drop and will be looking to improve their squad to avoid another relegation scrap next term.

Mark Hughes has overseen another decent season at the bet365 Stadium, but need reinforcements to move up to the next level, while Slaven Bilic’s West Ham, who have also been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, have endured a tricky debut campaign at the London Stadium, not helped by their strikers’ struggles for form throughout the season.

Andy Carroll is their top-scoring forward with just seven goals this term, while the other four of Andre Ayew, Diafra Sakho, Jonathan Calleri, and Ashley Fletcher have only managed that total between them, so a signing like Wood would certainly bolster their options going forward.

With Leeds under new ownership it won’t be easy getting a deal done this summer, but it certainly looks like Wood will be subject to intense interest throughout the next few months.
