Manchester City host Arsenal in the Premier League match of the weekend at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (4:30pm), which will be the 177th match contested between the two clubs.

The champions have had a topsy-turvy campaign so far, putting together runs of fantastic results, followed by surprising defeats such as the one suffered at Newcastle mid-week.

Despite their up-and-down form, the Sky Blues find themselves just five points behind leaders Liverpool and can climb back to second place above Tottenham with a win today.

It could be argued that the Gunners have had a similar season. Under the stewardship of new boss Unai Emery, Arsenal have played some fantastic football this season, but inconsistency has cost them valuable points this campaign.

The North London side find themselves in a competitive race for a top four finish with Chelsea and Manchester United, with three points today putting them level on 50 points, in fourth place with their London rivals.

Recent form in this fixture is certainly not attractive reading for the London side. The Gunners have lost the last four matches between the sides in all competitions, conceding 11 goals and scoring just one in return.

However, the Cityzens will have to raise their game and put in a much better performance than they managed at St James’ Park last Wednesday, if they want to aim to continue their winning streak again Arsenal.

Like all big games, both clubs will be hoping for big performances from their big names. We feel the two players who will separate the sides are strikers, City’s Sergio Aguero and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In the blue corner, Aguero is a goalscoring legend at City and this campaign has been no different. The Argentine has picked up a few injuries this season and has had to fight off competition from Gabriel Jesus, but has always been preferred by manager Pep Guardiola in the big games.

Aguero has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season.

In the red corner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been finding the net regularly for the Gunners in his first full Premier League campaign. Netting 15 times this season, the Gabonese international is just one gaol behind Mohammed Salah in the league goalscoring charts.

So, with the two exciting forwards set to go head-to-head on Sunday, here is how they match up so far in the top-flight this term…
