Manchester United are set for a huge summer overhaul after registering their lowest ever points tally this season.

A number of United players are set to leave the club when their contracts expire, including Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, while a number of other players could be sold in order to generate funds for new signings.

Erik ten Hag, who officially takes charge of the club on Monday, will be tasked with rebuilding the Red Devils’ squad, although it is believed that he will have a modest budget to do so.

In terms of outgoings, though, it appears that some of the players set to depart the club are already planning their next moves.

According to The Daily Mail, midfielder Jesse Lingard could be on his way back to West Ham United, just 12 months after his loan spell with the Hammers finished.

The Englishman spent six successful months in east London, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in 16 games, but opted to return to Manchester at the start of this season.

Lingard’s 13-year stay at Manchester United will come to an end in the coming weeks

The Englishman was reportedly offered the chance to join West Ham permanently, but chose instead to return to his parent club in a bid to secure a starting spot under Ralf Rangnick.

That was in vain, though, as he started just two league games all season for the Red Devils.

Now, Lingard could be on his way back to the London Stadium.

The report claims that the Hammers will move quickly to secure the signing of the 29-year-old, with plenty of other clubs believed to be interested in his services.

West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to make clear to the player that he is wanted back in the capital, and will therefore aim to tie up a deal early on in the window.

Lingard leaves United having scored 35 goals in 232 appearances for the club across all competitions.
