Chelsea will hope to improve their dismal recent record at The London Stadium when they face West Ham United on Saturday.

The Blues have won just one of their last seven visits to the Hammers, and new head coach Enzo Maresca will be desperate to correct that record.

His side have started the new campaign relatively positively and have been particularly impressive on the road, beating both Wolves and Bournemouth by scorelines of 6-2 and 1-0 respectively.

One player that has been in fine form in the early weeks of the season is winger Noni Madueke, and Fabrizio Romano claims that the winger was the subject of significant interest from Newcastle United over the summer.

Speaking on his CaughtOffside column, the Italian journalist claims that the Magpies had the player very high on their list of targets over the summer as they searched for attacking reinforcements.

Despite their interest, Romano also claims that no formal talks were ever held between the two clubs, or between Madueke’s representatives and the Magpies.

Madueke has started the new season strongly

The Englishman joined Chelsea from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January last year and has since made more than 50 appearances.

He has started the new season impressively, netting a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-2 demolishing of Wolves at Molineux last month.

The right-winger is contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, and he looks likely to play an important role under Maresca during the remainder of the current campaign.

Having sat out their opening weekend defeat against Premier League champions Manchester City, Madueke has since been involved in all five of Chelsea’s matches across all competitions.

He was also handed his senior England debut against Finland earlier this month.
