Chelsea look set to complete the signing of their top target after one of the summer’s longest transfer sagas took another huge twist on Friday.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo for the majority of the transfer window so far, and it looked increasingly likely that the Ecuador international would be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

That was until Liverpool entered the race to sign the player early on Friday morning, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the Reds tabled a staggering £110 million bid.

Caicedo therefore looked to be heading to Merseyside, but the midfielder is now said to have performed a shock u-turn and will be joining Chelsea after all.

According to Romano, the player himself has decided against a move to Anfield and will instead push ahead in an effort to join the Blues, having agreed personal terms with the London club earlier this summer.

Caicedo looks set to join Chelsea despite late interest from Liverpool

Romano claims that Caicedo has told Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea and will therefore not be joining Jurgen Klopp’s side, despite the German revealing in a press conference on Friday morning that the two clubs had agreed a deal.

Chelsea will now push ahead and make another offer for the player in an attempt to reach an agreement and finalise a deal, it is claimed.

Caicedo, 21, joined the Seagulls from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle back in 2021 and spent a short spell on loan in Belgium before returning to The Amex last year.

He impressed during the second half of the 2021/22 season, before enjoying a remarkable breakthrough campaign last term.

In total the midfielder made 43 appearances across all competitions, but it appears almost certain that his time on the south coast is coming to an end.
