Since Joe Willock’s arrival on loan at Newcastle United, the Arsenal youngster has scored eight goals including an incredible seven in his last seven Premier League matches – becoming the youngest ever to do so.

The 21-year-old midfielder has blown all expectations out of the water and been integral to Steve Bruce’s management of a rise out of the relegation picture and into 12th position.

Unsurprisingly, his teammates now don’t want to see the back of him and a return to the Gunners, but are calling on the club to land the magic-man on a permanent basis.

Fan-favourite Allan Saint-Maximin told Stadium Astro that Willock is an: “Amazing player. Fast, scores goals, technique, good abilities.

He is a really good player and we need more players like him if we want top 10. I feel more comfortable with Willock. He helps the team to play well. It is important Willock.”

The Telegraph add that signing Willock would tempt Saint-Maximin to stay with the Magpies, but would need a figure in the region of £20m to acquire the youngster for good.

From an Arsenal point of view, having just finished the season with no European qualification in eighth, surely keeping an exciting English talent could pay out bigger dividends than a measly £20m fee – even if that is a large quantity for Newcastle to part with.

Fellow Gunners youth player Emile Smith Rowe has shone when given the opportunity in a red shirt by boss Mikel Arteta, and there’s no reason why Willock couldn’t do the same.

Newcastle have been as low as 17th at the end of January, the window in which Willock signed, with fears of relegation very much in the fray.

But, with his added enthusiasm and an upturn of the whole squad’s form ending up not far off mid-table, we think Willock will be a boost to any side that gets him.
