Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday as they were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Brennan Johnson had already put the visitors in front when Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a high tackle on James Maddison.

Dejan Kulusevski then doubled Spurs’ lead shortly after the break, before Dominic Solanke added a third late on to secure all three points.

The defeat leaves United 12th in the Premier League table, and it appears that their poor form has piled more pressure on manager Erik Ten Hag.

As per GiveMeSport, United’s lack of improvement since the last international break is making the Dutchman’s position increasingly uncertain.

Ten Hag was believed to be on the verge of being sacked towards the end of last season, but victory over fierce rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley earned him a contract extension instead.

Ten Hag’s side have started the new season poorly.

Things have hardly improved since then, though, with United having won just three of their nine games across all competitions so far this term.

If the Dutchman is dismissed, the report suggests that former England boss Gareth Southgate would be one of the frontrunners for the job, alongside current Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

Ten Hag took charge of United ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, and he has since guided the Red Devils to both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Their performances in the Premier League and Europe have underwhelmed, though, and pressure is growing on the former Ajax boss after a recent run of poor results.

United were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente in the Europa League last week, having drawn 0-0 with Crystal Palace in their previous outing.

Ten Hag’s current contract is believed to expire at the end of next season, but it appears increasingly likely that he will depart Old Trafford prior to that date.
