In the stand out clash in the Premier League this weekend, table-toppers Manchester City welcome Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to the Etihad.
City made a fine start to the campaign, winning their opening five fixtures without conceding, but have looked slightly off-colour in recent weeks, drawing two and needing a last-minute winner to beat Norwich in their previous three top-flight matches.
Last time out, Manuel Pellegrini’s side played out a goalless draw with bottom side Aston Villa, and they will be hoping to return to winning ways on Saturday evening.
The previous fixtures before the international break was also not a good one for Klopp and his Reds – they were beaten 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace in the German’s first defeat since he took charge.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss will be looking for a reaction from his men, and will be hoping for a similar performance to their last one on the road in the league – a 3-1 success at champions Chelsea.
For the Citizens, the interest around the team news will be whether the fit-again Sergio Aguero is named in the starting XI or will have to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench, while Fabian Delph and Pablo Zabaleta could feature.
However, the hosts will be missing David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri through injury.
For the visitors, the headlines are again to do with the strikers, and whether former City man Daniel Sturridge will be named in Klopp’s squad.
Dejan Lovren is set to replace the injured Mamadou Sakho, while Jordon Ibe and James Milner are likely to be involved despite missing their respective international fixtures.
