Two of the Premier League’s most impressive footballing teams meet at St. Mary’s on Saturday, but it is the visitors that have made the stronger start to the season.
Southampton are boosted by the return of Ryan Bertrand, who could make his first league start of the season after a hugely impressive campaign last time out. Graziano Pelle is expected to overcome a foot injury to feature, but Jordy Clasie is still unavailable.
The Saints should be confident in front of goal after firing six past MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, and Pelle will be hoping to continue his fine record at St. Mary’s – 14 of his 16 Southampton goals have come at home.
Swansea have seen a strong start hit the buffers slightly, taking just one point from their last two fixtures and going goalless in each.
The visitors have no injury concerns to speak of, and are likely to field Jack Cork in midfield against his former club.
They will take heart from the omens in this fixture; each of the last three matches between these two teams have finished 1-0 to the away side, including last season’s clash which saw a long-range Jonjo Shelvey strike send the points back to South Wales.
