At times they were scintillatin, yet the football world think Manchester United are capable of so much more.

The recent deal to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford will certainly help United step it up another level, yet their play in the final third was rarely the issue.

Edison Cavani’s presence as the sole number nine gave Manchester United an excellent focal point at the point of their attack and, with Bruno Fernandes supplying the Uruguayan, there were times where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were unstoppable.

However, many still feel they were not as good as the could have been, and it has often been attributed to the fact they have never been able to convincingly fit Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba into the same midfield.

During project restart in 2020, Solskjaer effectively fielded Fernandes and Pogba as two attacking number eights in a 4-3-3 formation and they sliced through the opposition like a hit knife through butter.

Yet it did not work this season as United lost three of their opening four Premier League matches.

Sadly, for United fans, it appears the combination of Pogba and Fernandes will never be perfected, as reports from the Daily Star suggest Paris Saint-Germain are confident they will be able to sign the Frenchman.

Pogba scored a wonder goal and contributed an even better assist in Euro 2020.

While France were dramatically knocked out of Euro 2020 by Switzerland, Pogba took the tournament by storm with incredible, jaw dropping performances very similar to Zinedine Zidane.

United fans were salivating at his performances, yet they could be left disappointed if the nine-time French champions affirm their beliefs.

It is believed they could take advantage of the 28-year-old’s contract situation at United and they are even confident they could secure him for as little as £50 million.

Pogba’s contract expires this year and reports from the club suggest United would rather sell him for a cut price, rather than lose him for nothing next season.
