Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in what promises to be a thrilling encounter at Anfield.

Both The Blues and The Reds have been in poor form of late, with Chelsea having won just two of their last 12 games across all competitions, while Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost their last two Premier League games.

Despite losses to both Brentford and Brighton in the past fortnight, Liverpool did return to winning ways with a 1-0 FA Cup victory over Wolves on Tuesday, and Klopp will be hoping that his side can build on that performance.

Cody Gakpo has already arrived at Anfield this month, but it remains to be seen whether or not The Reds will recruit any more new signings before the window shuts at the end of the month.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Liverpool had an audacious move for a Ligue 1 star rejected last summer.

According to The Athletic, Kylian Mbappe snubbed the chance to move to Anfield last summer, amid interest from Spanish champions Real Madrid.

A member of the board at Mbappe’s current club, Paris Saint-Germain, reportedly ‘opened the door’ for Mbappe to leave Les Parc des Princes last summer, although the French side never entertained the idea of the forward joining Madrid.

Mbappe reportedly rejected the chance to join Liverpool last year

Mbappe, 24, penned a new three-year contract with PSG last year, amid rumours linking him with a big money move to the Spanish capital.

Since joining PSG from fellow Ligue 1 side Monaco back in 2017, Mbappe has scored a remarkable 191 goals in 240 matches across all competitions, as well as providing 93 assists.

Alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, Mbappe’s fine form propelled PSG to the Ligue 1 title last season, and the trio look likely to do so once again this term.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, the report also claims that PSG slapped a £352 million price tag on Mbappe, also telling the player that he would only be allowed to leave if he were to join The Reds.

The France international has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for a number of years now, but the contract extension he signed last year will likely have increased his value.
