Rangers are closing in on their third signing of the week.

According to a report in The Scotsman, Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena is in Glasgow completing a medical to switch from Chivas Guadalajara.

Pena spent last season out on loan at Leon with Chivas agreeing a deal to send the midfielder to Scotland.

With personal terms for the player agree and a fee between the two clubs the final obstacle to be cleared after the medical will be a request for a work permit.

Rangers have explored that issue and are confident that the midfielder will be cleared to play in the SPFL.

If the transfer goes through Pena will join Bruno Alves and Ryan Jack in Pedro Caixinha’s squad although none of them will be at Murray Park for the start of pre-season training on Monday.

While Pena waits for his work permit Alves is on international duty with Portugal as Jack prepares for his wedding next Friday

Rangers are believed to have tabled a bid of just under £1m for Norwich midfielder Graham Dorrans.
