Rangers have missed out on signing West Ham kid Reece Oxford after Reading agreed to pay the defenders £10,000 a week wages.

According to a report in The Daily Mail the Championship promotion chasers have agreed to pay in full the wages of the 18-year-old defender.

Rangers were the first club to approach West Ham about taking the defender on loan with manager-less Nottingham Forest declaring an interest yesterday.

Mark Warburton was keen to bring in a new defensive option but it’s believed that West Ham were concerned about game time since the Ibrox side already have four first team central defenders.

Oxford signed a four and a half year contract with West Ham before Christmas and is widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in the game.

With Jaap Stam in charge of Reading Slaven Bilic will be confident that the England youth internationalist is in good hands for the next stage of his development.
