Following the conclusion of Wigan Athletic’s entertaining 4-3 pre-season victory at League One outfit Fleetwood Town on Friday night, Latics manager Gary Caldwell reflected upon the win for his side, in their final outing before the new 2016/17 English Football League season.

“I thought we were excellent right throughout the game, we had real intent our attacking play right from the first whistle,” he said.

“We pressed well and we looked hungry for the game, but our game management in the second-half was a disappointment.

“We made mistakes in the wrong areas and gave them soft goals, but overall we’re delighted with what we showed and we can look forward to the start of the season on Saturday now.”

Meanwhile Fleetwood are hopeful of announcing 47-year-old Rosler as their new manager in the coming days following Steven Pressley’s resignation.

The German boss, who played for the likes of Manchester City, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, has been out of work since being dismissed as Leeds United’s head coach back in October 2015.
