Reading are edging closer to signing Premier League goalkeeper Julian Speroni on deadline day, according to The Guardian.

The Championship side, who currently lie 15th in the table after 28 games, are eager to complete a loan deal for the Crystal Palace shot stopper until the end of the season.

The 36-year-old, who is a former Argentina Under-20 international, has failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Eagles so far this season.

Speroni, who has played over 380 games for Palace since 2004, has been out-of-favour under manager Alan Pardew this term behind fellow ‘keepers Wayne Hennessey and Alex McCarthy at Selhurst Park.

The deal is set to materialise due to the Premier League side taking Rob Green off of Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers’ hands until the summer.
