Reading have reportedly made a club record bid for Rapid Vienna striker Robert Beric.

It is understood that the Championship outfit have tabled €5.4m (£3.93m) for the Slovenia international, who only joined Vienna last summer from Austrian rivals Sturm Graz.

The 24-year-old, who has six international caps, has already scored six goals in nine games this season for the unbeaten Austria Bundesliga leaders.

After having their opening approach rejected by Vienna back in July, it seems the Royals have now stumped up the asking price for Beric, just a week before the close of the transfer window.

Beric, who finished as the Bundesliga’s second highest goalscorer last term with 27 goals in 33 games, would surpass Reading’s club record signing of Emerse Fae, who cost the club £2.5m from French side Nantes back in 2007.
