Manchester United return to action when they face Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Red Devils held rivals Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last time out, denting their opponents’ hopes of winning the Premier League title this term.

A draw left United sixth in the Premier League table, but they are now 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and therefore look almost certain to miss out on a top four spot.

Now, it appears that there could be more bad news for United boss Erik ten Hag.

According to Spanish outlet Don Diario via The Express, La Liga giants Real Madrid are keeping tabs on United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

The report claims that Real are considering signing a young midfielder this summer, with current stars Toni Kroos and Luka Modric both set to be out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Mainoo scored a stunning goal against Liverpool on Sunday

Despite Carlo Ancelotti having the likes of Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde at his disposal in midfield, the report claims that those in charge of the Spanish side are monitoring Mainoo.

The report claims that Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, perceives the prospect of a move for Mainoo as ‘very interesting’.

The 18-year-old has broken into the first team at Old Trafford this term, making 23 appearances across all competitions.

Mainoo’s impressive form has also seen the midfielder earn his first senior England cap, after being called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad last month.

Having made his Three Lions debut against Brazil, the teenager has since been tipped for inclusion in the squad for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

Despite Real’s interest, United are likely to be desperate to keep hold of Mainoo, who is contracted to the Manchester side until the end of the 2026/27 season.
