Real Madrid have to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Wolfsburg in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie if they are to make it through to the semi-finals of the modern day version of the competition for an 11th time.

The 10-times European winners suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat against last year’s Bundesliga runners-up on Wednesday with the goals coming from Ricardo Rodriguez and Maxi Arnold.

Zinedine Zidane’s side looked favourites to progress into the last four prior to that match, but the German outfit sprung a surprise on the 2014 Champions League winners to take a comfortable lead to the Bernabeu.

Madrid will be happy to welcome back Gareth Bale, Toni Roos and Sergio Ramos to the squad ahead of a must-win match for their French manager.

They will have to get past a stubborn Wolfsburg defence, although the German club have never made it past the quarter-final stage of this prestigious competition.

Real go into this decider following a comfortable 4-0 win over Spanish strugglers Eibar, with Cristano Ronaldo scoring his 232nd goal in La Liga, and he will be looking to continue his scoring run into the Champions League – the Portugal international has netted 13 goals in this season’s Champions League.

Wolfsburg have been the surprise package of the tournament and are looking to qualify for there first ever Champions League semi-final. But the odds are stacked against them if Real Madrid utilise their undoubted firepower, with Los Blancos yet to concede a goal at home in Europe this term.

Karim Benzema returns for Real Madrid after suffering a knee injury in the first leg, while Real also welcome back Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos into the side.

For Wolfsburg, Sebastian Jung is out with a knee injury and Daniel Caligiuri is a doubt with a groin problem.
