Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has urged his former club to sign Argentina international star Javier Pastore.

The Premier League side, who suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, currently sit second in the top-flight table, eight points adrift of leaders and arch rivals Manchester City.

Cantona, 51, believes Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho should make a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Pastore ahead of the January transfer window, with the Argentine failing to cement a first-team spot for the Ligue 1 giants this term.

Pastore, 28, who has 29 international caps for his country, has scored three goals and provided an assist in 10 appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side this season.

The former forward told FullTimeDEVILS, “I love Pastore, he plays for Paris but doesn’t play in the team.

“Pastore is very special, he surprises you every time. He’ll give the ball to someone you didn’t see before.

“He plays for Argentina, a great country. But he doesn’t play for Paris – a small club! Or a small club with a lot of money.”

Pastore is valued at £18m by transfermarkt.
