PSV Eindhoven won’t be pursuing their interest in Siem de Jong.

According to a report in The Chronicle the midfielder is on his way back to Newcastle and will report for pre-season training on July 5.

Rafa Benitez sent de Jong on a season long loan to PSV to improve his fitness but that has only been a qualified success with the 28-year-old making 23 appearances and scoring six goals.

It’s unlikely that that sort of form will have transformed de Jong into a first team contender as Newcastle return to the Premier League.

Newcastle paid Ajax £6m for de Jong in 2014 but look like having to arrange another loan deal with the player under contract until 2020.

Benitez is on the look out for players ready to hit the ground running next season with few examples of players managing that switch from Holland to England.

With his contract running for three more seasons it’s unlikely that any club will be willing to match the Dutchman’s wages and pay a transfer fee.
